The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, is the flagship institution in the statewide higher education system. UT was founded in 1794 as Blount College, two years before Tennessee became a state. It became the state’s land-grant institution in 1869. Other institutions of the UT system include the UT Health Science Center in Memphis, UT Chattanooga, UT Martin, UT Space Institute in Tullahoma, UT Institute of Agriculture, and UT Institute for Public Service.
