Corporate Action Project Provides Big Savings for My Sponsor

Mike Macyauski
EMBA 2002

Managing Director
FedEx Corporation

One of the most beneficial aspects of the program is the year-long Corporate Action Project (CAP). The opportunity to mesh classroom learning with real-life problem solving proved extremely valuable. Applying concepts learned in the program to bring about positive change within one's company was rewarding to me and my sponsoring organization. The combination of academic theory, consults with expert faculty advisors, and personal research results not only in an extremely valuable learning opportunity, but also in significant positive impacts for the corporate sponsor. My particular CAP focused on improved processing through the world's largest express package hub--the FedEx World Hub located in Memphis, Tennessee. The net results of my project included reducing hub processing time by 12 minutes. This is a significant bottom-line contribution to a network company such as ours, where a single minute equates to several million dollars of operating cost. In addition to my increased confidence and capabilities as an executive leader, FedEx realized actual improved operating results because of the body of work encompassed within my CAP.
